Extrapolations

Lighting TD

extrapolations.jpg

On the Apple TV series Extrapolations, I contributed as a Lighting TD using Clarisse and Nuke, focusing on refining lighting and ensuring visual consistency across sequences. I implemented Lighting Supervisor notes to align with the show’s artistic direction and performed precise plate matching to seamlessly integrate CG elements with live-action footage. I also created compositing slap comps using advanced layering techniques for look development and validation. In addition, I provided mentorship and support to junior and new artists, helping them navigate the pipeline and maintain high-quality standards.

Breakdown

The Bear

For this sequence, I was responsible for the lighting of the bear in a particularly challenging plate. With multiple complex light sources, I worked through several iterations until both the supervisors and the client were convinced of the creature's realism.

Additionally, I designed the interaction setup for the bear passing through the actress using an occlusion shader, ensuring seamless integration between CG and live-action elements.

Ice debris

We integrated a set of ice debris, rendering a combination of the beauty and refraction pass in the water to enhance realism and visual accuracy.

The Warlus

We refined the light rig through multiple iterations until we achieved realistic lighting for the walrus.

Delivery Drones

We had six city drone shots, but only one made it to the final output. I worked on the light rig, ensuring it matched the plates for realistic integration.
